Frequently Asked Questions
As great as social media is for getting the word out, we think that it can be difficult to reference since older posts get pushed down into the ether.
A website, however, is different as it has more ways to display information.
For instance, we think geographically so when we find someplace cool to visit on a social media post, our first thought is “How far away is it?” That’s why we have an interactive map on our website to help satiate this geospatial compulsion (plus it looks cool!).
The places we post on KMCx have all been visited by us over the two decades we have lived in the KMC. Many we have discovered by accident, that is, by making a wrong turn and finding something wonderful! We have visited some the locations many times and made further discoveries on subsequent trips where we found better places to park and great restaurants.
There are so many places yet to be discovered so we will take suggestions from others who have been to those places we have yet to see for ourselves.
Many of our locations are public spaces therefore free of charge. There are some that do require an entry fee like museums and some castles (like Schloss Heidelberg). Since fees are changing often, we suggest referring to the official websites which you can find one the page.

The drive-time for each location on our site is calculated from Kaiserslautern. We simply use Google Maps and plot the most direct route by car. In many cases, time will vary depending on from where you are starting and suggest you use your favorite navigation app (which we’re sure you do anyway!).
Ja!
No we do not. We have taken almost all of the pictures on our site. We do have some that we have received from friends and that is stated in the picture captions. We also have some historical pictures that we have gotten from local news sources and historical agencies and those also have this noted in the picture captions.
