Die Geschichte

This “castle” has been around in one form or another since the early 13th century. It’s been built, burned down and rebuilt multiple times over the centuries. It survived the 30 Years’ War, the 9 Years’ War and the succession of many kings and emperors. Martin Luther himself once visited here. All these things happened before Germany was even a country.

Now, you can come and visit these magnificent grounds and snap photos of the Romantic architecture.

But wait! There’s more! The German Parmacy Museum is located in the castle!

Wander the cobble stone courtyard and take in the sights. Take a breather inside the castle and see one of the world’s largest wine barrels which can hold almost 60,000 gallons of wine. Talk about a party!

Tipps für Ihren Besuch

If you drive to Heidelberg, there are many parking options in the city. KMCx recommends parking at P10 and it’s about a 15 minute walk through the pedestrian zone to the castle. You can take the funicular up the hill or take the crazy stair as shown in the pictures.

Have a great time and make sure to take plenty of selfies!
