Die Geschichte

Heidelberg is one of those internationally renowned cities in Germany that everybody wants to visit. One of the attractions is their over 100 year old mountain train, or “Bergbahn” (also called a funicular) that climbs up the hill to Königstuhl.

The train runs in two parts: the lower more modern part takes riders from street level in the Altstadt to the Heidelberg Schloss, then one station further to Molkenkur; and the upper part takes visitors from Molkenkur to Königstuhl where there is a hotel, restaurant and even a small zoo. There are plenty of hiking and biking opportunities up there but please plan ahead.

Check out the train’s official website for more information.

Tipps für Ihren Besuch

KMCx recommends parking in one of the many parking garages downtown. We often use Parkhaus 10 at the Friedrich-Ebert-Platz. They have electric vehicle charging and public bathrooms which is nice. From there, walk east in the pedestrian zone to check out all the shops. It’s about a 15 minute walk to the Rathause train station.

At the station you have the option of getting a ticket for the train as well as an entrance ticket to the Schloss. You can check out the Schloss then make your way up the hill to Königstuhl. In the summer months they have wine stands open at the top of the hill so you can sip your drink in the sun and enjoy the view!

Oh yeah! There is also a great hotel/restaurant up there which is decked out on the inside Alpine style. Check out their website Sie können uns kontaktieren hier..
