The Story

Johaness Gutenberg is one of those historical figures that changed the world as we know it. Taking the idea from the grape presses of the time and applying it to printing, he invented a way to mass-produce the printed word so that everybody, not just clergy and royalty, could get their hands on a book for cheaper than ever before. This invention has had far-reaching consequences on civilization that are too many to list here. If you want to know more about that, then come to the museum!

The new lacation (as of November 2024) is just a short walk from downtown Mainz at a restored monastary.

Check out their website for more information.

The museum giftshop has some great items for you as well. It is recommended to get a page of the Bible that was printed in the same way that Gutenberg printed the OG Gutenberg Bible.

Tips to make it enjoyable

Parking can be frustrating in a big city like Mainz so be sure to do some research before your go. KMCx usually parks at the parking garage (Parkhaus am Brand) at Quintinsstraße 12, 55116 Mainz. This is right downtown and is a good place to be right in the center of the city. There are plenty of restaurants, bars and shopping to keep you busy all day. You can also stroll along the Rhein River which is a stone’s throw from parking. Have fun and wear your walking shoes.
