Germany is a very bike-friendly country.  Cities like Heidelberg, Berlin and Augsburg have thriving bike cultures and even have bike-only streets.  In bigger cities like the aforementioned ones, residents often rely on bikes for transportation because parking can be difficult and expensive.

Not only is Germany a powerhouse of “velo culture”, but a powerhouse of bike manufacturing as well.  The country produced over 2 million bicycles in 2024 with 1.6 million of those being e-bikes.  So, that said, Germany is the place to get a top-quality bike (e-bike or otherwise).

Below, KMCx has compiled a list of our favorite German bike brands and where to buy.  This list is not all-inclusive since Germany hosts a multitude of brands.

Cube

One of the most well-known brands in Germany, they make everything from city-touring bikes, e-bikes and even Time Trial bikes for triathletes.   They have their own stores and as well large selections in some of the bigger bike stores like FahrradXXL in Mainz and Ludwigshafen.

Ghost

Another great brand that builds wonderful mountain and gravel bikes.  We have a gravel from this brand and we absolutely love it!  We got it at XXL Franz in Mainz (see map below) on sale.

As far as we know, they take VAT forms so be sure to bring one!

Rose Bikes

This brand is a unique one.  Founded by Heinrich Rose in 1907, this company has a long history of producing quality bicycles.  However, you cannot buy in stores other than their own, but even then, you cannot walk out with one.  You have to buy online, but KMCx recommends hitting up one of their stores and getting a proper fit.  The closest one according to their website is in Cologne.

Check out the Rose website for more information.

Focus Bikes

Formed in 1992, this brand has a little bit of everything.  Gravels, road bikes, mountain bikes and e-bikes for every category.

They offer a super-light E-mountain bike that is top of the charts.  This brand is available at most bike stores.  Check out their website.

Canyon

This brand is hard-core!  They offer most of the types that other brands do but they offer a line of TT bikes for triathletes as well.  Check out their website.
