Castle Ruin Beilstein

This castle once hosted a hermit girl who had ghosts as body guards

Region/City: KMC

The Story

Believe it or not, this weathered rock-looking formation was actually a castle in the Middle Ages. According to local legend, a young woman inhabited the castle in solitude, recieving neither visitors nor suitors. Once day, a local squire and two servants attempted to kidnap the girl, only to discover that she was not alone in the castle grounds. The three men were petrified to discover that it was in fact ghosts that kept the young lass company! The squire obsconded with the young lady after waking up from the fright of his discovery, noticing that his servants and ghosts had “fled” the scene.

He didn’t get far with his prize as she was able to manage escaping from his grasp in the woods. Upon returning to the castle on a second attempt, the squire was put to sleep of the permanent type by the ghosts who had reappeared.

This tale is in keeping with the German-style fairy tale ala Brothers Grimm where shenanigans end in death.

Not to worry though! We visited this castle and there were no signs of a hermit girl, squire or ghosts at all. Although we do not know what kind of ferensic evidence ghosts leave, we assume they have not been there in a long time!

Tips for your visit

The castle is located over a mile from any vehicle access, so be prepared to hike. I good place to start is the parking lot “Entersweiler Mühle Parkplatz” and hike down the asphalt path eastwards until you see the signs for the castle. Be sure to secure good footwear before you go!
