Rheinland-Pfalz Open-Air Museum, Bad Sobernheim

The official open-air museum of the state of Rheinland-Pfalz offers 500 years of buildings from all over the region

The Story

In Germany, every state has it’s own official “Freilicht” museum. They dimantle, piece by piece, old buildings from all over their states and reassemble them at their respective museums. In Bad Sobernheim, you can visit buildings up to 500 years old that have come from all over Rheinland-Pfalz.

These buildings offer unique glimpses into the local past, complete with interiors and artifacts. In September you can visit the museum on their “Museumfest” where they have food and drinks as well as vendors selling everything from hand-made items to locally-produced cheeses. Check out their website for more details.

Tips for your visit

On fest days, parking can get crazy and you may have to walk a ways depending on what time you get there. On regular days, parking is plentiful.
