The Story

Every December, this little town celebrates the sacrifices made by the men of the 101st Airborne Division in the winter of 1944/45. Go for a commemorative hike through the fields where men dug foxholes during this battle which was also one of the coldest winters on record. Dress up in period clothing or just come to see the sights and sounds, visit the memorial or watch the reenactments; you will come away from this experience with a greater appreciation for history and the men and women who made it. There are many tours available or you can simply drive there on your own.

You don’t need to come in December to see the festivities either, you can visit any time of year and tour the museum.

Check it out, you will not be disapointed.

See the museum’s official website for more info.

For Nuts Weekend 2026, go here.

Tips for your visit

If you do come for Nuts Weekend, it gets quite crowded. Even early in the morning, the town is thronging with hikers eager to hit the trails that ring the town and provide a way to see the former defensive positions manned by soldiers of the 101st Airborne and other units.

KMCx recommends staying the night so you can hit the road before the crowds do. You have to book way in advance because the events are really popular.

Outside events though, parking is widely available.
